2022 is flying by so we’re offering up 5 Relax Tips for Fall! We’re already in the end half of the year and that means that the holidays are on their way. It’s a great time to take a pause and reflect on the year before we get into the hectic holiday season. It can be difficult to Relax. In fact, we often get the opposite reaction when we are told or tell others to Relax. So how do we Relax in this day and age? There are multiple ways to destress and Relax this October. Everyone has their own way to Relax and we get that. What work for you may not work for others. This week, we offer up our 5 Relax Tips for Fall.
Get Your Chores Done to Relax
Chores? I’m not a teenager! While that may be true, being an adult means you have to adult. Make a list a the beginning of the day with all your chores and goals. This includes anything to do with work, or home life. Need to get a report in at work? Put it on the list. Need to sweep the kitchen tonight? Put it on the list. Tick off the list as your day goes by and you’ll be rewarded with serotonin for your progress. When all is said and done you’ll have your whole list done and it’ll be time to chill out on the couch. According to House Beautiful, “Research by Kärcher revealed that six in 10 of the 2,000 adults polled claimed that having a clean and tidy house instantly makes them feel calmer and less stressed.” Plus, the work around the house will help tire you out which will lead to even more relaxation!
Relax in a Quiet Space
Depending on your vibes, you may need to find a quiet place to Relax. Now, this obviously can be a physical space like a quiet park, a serene hike in the mountains, or just a room in your house where no one is! You can also find a quiet space to Relax in you brain. This can be done by compartmentalization. According to Forbes, “Without compartmentalization in place, thinking deeply can quickly become overthinking, and you may find yourself spiraling down a negative thought cycle that’s hard to climb out of.” If you find yourself stressing about something in particular, put it in the back of your mind. Of course, easier said than done, however this can do wonders to you mental health if you can master compartmentalization.
Read a Book for Relaxation
We’re all addicted to our phones. Okay, maybe not everyone but sure, a lot of us are. We’ve heard some couples actually don’t bring phones into their bedroom at night. While this is amazing advice, we know not everyone has this self control. Ourselves included! A good note though, if you do find yourself checking tweets at 11:00pm, is to leave a book by your bed. When it’s time to head to sleep, read a few pages of the book so your eyes can adjust to the light. Eventually you’ll be exerting mental energy that will hopefully send you to sleep shortly. How does reading make you fall asleep exactly? It’s not that the act makes you fall right to sleep. According to The Sleep Doctor, “Reading, in itself, does not make you sleepy, but it distracts from the troubles of the day, making sleep easier.”
Exercise leads to Relaxing
We think about this more like preemptively taking care of yourself. While it sounds counter productive, physical activity will wear you out. Having a work out regimen in place will help you create a schedule, which in turn will help you fall asleep at the right time. According to John Hopkins medicine, “Aerobic exercise causes the body to release endorphins. These chemicals can create a level of activity in the brain that keeps some people awake. These individuals should exercise at least 1 to 2 hours before going to bed, giving endorphin levels time to wash out and “the brain time to wind down.” Apparently doctors don’t know the exact cause of exercise causing relaxation but here have been many studies that say so! We’ll take you words for it doc!
