August 14, 2023WHO CBD Report; the World Health Organization
August 14, 2023When trying CBD for the first time, a lot of people ask about the side effects of CBD. For example, what’s the connection between CBD and sleep? While many medicines and supplements can cause tiredness, does CBD? Let’s answer this question once and for all: “will CBD make me tired?”
CBD Effects Everyone Differently
First and foremost, it’s important to know that CBD effects everyone differently. While we all have a thriving endocannabinoid system, there are many other mechanisms that impact how CBD might make you feel.
For example, your activity level, metabolism, and any health conditions you might have can definitely impact how CBD interacts with your body.
What does this mean?
CBD effects individuals on a person-to-person basis; CBD might energize one person while calming another. That being said, CBD can potentially cause tiredness, however, it won’t be overwhelming and should subside as your body’s endocannabinoid system reaches homeostasis.
CBD and Sleep Regulation
There are many studies exploring the connection between the endocannabinoid system, sleep regulation, and sleep patterns. Exploring this research can help us understand how, when, and why CBD could cause tiredness.
A study published as recently as 2016 found that the endocannabinoid system is intertwined with sleep. When the CB1 endocannabinoid receptor is engaged, electroencephalographic (EEG) signaling increases at low frequencies. These findings suggest that the endocannabinoid system helps to regulate particular sleep states; this study found that sleep stages 1-3 were most affected.
A more recent literature review also demonstrates the connection between cannabinoids and sleep. The review states that CBD may have therapeutic effects and aid in REM sleep disorder behavior.
It is clear that there are numerous connections between CBD, the endocannabinoid system, and sleep. While more research is required to solidify the mechanisms behind this connection, CBD and sleep are very interconnected.
Will CBD Make Me Tired?
CBD could make you tired. Due to the connection between CBD and sleep, CBD could or could not cause some slight drowsiness.
The only way to know is to try it. If you’re new to CBD, start with a small amount and see how you feel over 10 days of consistent use. If you’re already a CBD user and decide to increase your current amount, it is possible that you could feel more tired.
This can happen if you’ve over-shot your CBD sweet spot.
If CBD does make you tired, there are a few things you can do. First, you can try taking CBD right before bed. This allows you to continue taking CBD, and it will probably help you sleep! In addition, you can also try a different delivery method, which may help to reduce or even stop CBD from making you feel a little sleep. Either way, you can still enjoy the many benefits of CBD.
